The Skyvue, George St. Sydney
Vibration Isolation > Major Projects > The Skyvue, George St. Sydney

Project Description

Built in 2005 as a commercial office development with lower level retail, the Skyvue building was constructed directly above four active railway tunnels in Sydney’s busy city centre. It was determined that without effective isolation of the ground-borne vibration generated by the trains running through the tunnel, unacceptable levels of noise would occur inside the building.

To assess the ground-borne vibration, extensive testing and modelling was carried out by the acoustic consultant who specified Embelton Multiplate Rubber Bearings to isolate the structure.

Embelton supplied 24 pre-compressed lateral bearings and 244 vertically loaded bearings with static deflection of 7-9mm under load. Individual testing of each bearing was conducted before installation, with compliance testing after the building was completed confirming a close correlation with the predicted noise levels.
